This sweater was knitted for me by my mother, Sally. It was one of the
first things she made on her knitting machine (many years ago). The
sweater pattern is very simple. She really wanted to try out the lace
carriage. The raglan sleeves let her make the lace all the way around the
top of the garment by making the same pattern across the top of each sleeve, the
front, and the back. It is such a cute look.
This is a close-up
of
the detail in the lace.
This
look is made by the lace carriage transfering stitches from one needle to an
adjacent needle, either left or right. When you knit the row with the
regular carriage, you get the effect of knitting two together, then wrapping the
yarn over the needle. The yarn she used is a Trenzado. I love the
shiny peach. I've had this sweater for 20 years now and it still looks
great!
The thing I can't do on my machine is these great ribbings. I don't
have a ribbing attachment. It is like having a whole other set of needles
that clip on under the main row of needles. Then you cast on stitches on
every-other-needle on each set. The top set knits, while the bottom set
purls. When the ribbing is done you transfer the stitches all up to the
main machine and remove the ribbing attachment.
