Cows in the Pasture
Cows in the Pasture
When
Jack and I first moved out here to Fort Lupton, we had nine acres of land to
play with. Jack very ambitiously
bought a cow first thing. We then
went to the Country General store and bought several chicks. We were soon learning how to care for these animals.
I loved looking out the window of our sunroom at the fields, fences, cows
and chickens. That is what inspired me to make these wall hangings with
country scenes featuring cows!
At
a weekend sewing/crafting retreat The hosts would put a gift at each plate
during each lunch and dinner. It
might be a pattern, some special thread, or an interesting piece of fabric.
These cow patterns were my gift at dinner one night.
I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to get home and start on them.
The pictures are fused on using Heat-n-Bond, which has become my favorite
paper-backed fusible webbing. You
simply trace the pattern pieces onto the paper, iron the piece onto your fabric,
fussy cut the pieces out, then iron them onto the background fabric using a
placement sheet included in the pattern. For
wall hangings, this method is sturdy enough, and very quick!
With seven children, I try to find the quickest methods for most things I
do!

Campine Silver and Antwerp Bengium Quail The Country Journal Quilt feature fabulous feathered chickens placed against a background of journal notations, local flora, and berries, as the sun rises in the morning sky. The inspiration for this beautiful quilt was an old journal with farm notations and observations. Appliqued Chicken Quilt This chicken was hand appliqued, which takes a while, but not too long for this small of a piece. I really liked the checkerboard sashing shown in the book, so I used it as a border in my wall-hanging. Checkerboards are so easy to make! You simply cut ...
